The City of Edmonds is seeking residents interested in serving
their community through two volunteer opportunities: one opening on the Edmonds
Arts Commission and one alternate position on the Edmonds Planning Board.
Arts Commission Opening:
The City of Edmonds Arts Commission (EAC) is seeking an Edmonds resident with a
passion for and interest in the cultural arts community. The current opening is a one-year partial term to fill a vacancy. Commissioners appointed to a partial term are
eligible to apply for a subsequent full four-year term.
The seven-member Arts Commission consists of members serving staggered four-year terms. By ordinance, four positions must be filled by Edmonds residents
professionally engaged in the arts, while three positions are reserved for residents
with a general interest or involvement in the arts.
The current vacancy is for a
member with a general interest in the arts and the Edmonds arts community, with
preference given to individuals with a background in visual, performing and/or
literary arts.
Candidates for the Arts Commission are interviewed by the EAC Nominating
Committee, interviewed and appointed by the Mayor, and approved by the City
Council. Commissioners also serve on commission subcommittees and other
community committees, including the Creative District Advisory Committee, as well
as other committees as needed.
More information about the Arts Commission and Cultural Services is available on the
City’s website at edmondswa.gov/government/departments/cultural_services.
Planning Board Opening:
The City is also seeking an Edmonds resident to serve as an alternate member of the
Edmonds Planning Board. The Planning Board serves as an advisory board to the City
Council on rezones, comprehensive planning, Community Development Code
amendments, and other land-use issues.
The Planning Board meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.
Volunteer board members serve four-year terms and are eligible for reappointment to
a second four-year term. The term for the current alternate position ends December
29, 2029, and the person appointed to the position will have the opportunity to
request appointment to a subsequent four-year term.
The alternate member attends all Planning Board meetings, participates in
discussions, and serves as a regular voting member when one of the seven regular
members is absent.
The City of Edmonds embraces diversity, and the Planning Board is committed to
building an inclusive team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives,
and skills.
