Updated June 2026
The Parks Department has identified a low‑density presence of Poison Hemlock in the Mee Meadow at Mathay Ballinger Park. All visible plants have been manually removed, and the affected area has been treated.
To ensure safe and effective management, the Parks Department is following integrated pest management best practices in alignment with WSDA and Snohomish County noxious weed guidelines, including:
- Targeted hand removal — physical removal of individual Poison Hemlock plants
- Spot herbicide application — applied only where necessary
- Increased mowing frequency — to prevent flowering and seed production
- Routine site monitoring — ongoing inspections to track regrowth
- Temporary educational signage — informing park visitors about the issue
- Meadow restoration support — encouraging clover and yarrow to outcompete undesirable weeds
