Mayor Dave Earling
A forum on local low-income housing needs will be held on:
It is sponsored by the Edmonds Housing Instability Coalition in cooperation with the City of Edmonds.
The event is free and open to the public. It will feature a panel discussion about needs and trends in housing for low-income households. The moderator will be Mark Smith, executive director of Housing Consortium of Everett and Snohomish County.
Panelists will include: Chris Collier, program manager at Alliance for Housing Affordability of Snohomish County; Mary Anne Dillion-Bryant, regional director at YWCA Snohomish County; and Elizabeth Kohl, director of social services at Housing Hope.
Shane Hope, Development Services Director for the City of Edmonds, will also be present to provide information on low-income housing in Edmonds. She has noted that low-income households include many people who have jobs or other resources but who struggle to have enough monthly income to afford today’s housing costs.
The Edmonds Housing Instability Coalition is a local, community-based volunteer group dedicated to bringing awareness of the need for low-income housing in Edmonds.
There's still space available for the 2017 Student Exchange Delegation to Hekinan Japan... Looking for an enriching experience for your teen between the ages of 14 - 18? The City of Edmonds Sister City Commission will send a delegation of up to 15 students, ages 14 – 18, to their Sister City of Hekinan, Japan, during the summer of 2017 in mid-July for two weeks. Then, in early August, a student delegation from Hekinan will visit the Edmonds area for two weeks.
These student exchanges are part of the mission of the Edmonds Sister City Commission which is “to promote international communication and understanding through exchanges of people, ideas, and culture” and they have been taking place for over 23 years.
While in Hekinan, the students will stay with host families. Students and their families will be financially responsible for their roundtrip airfare, as well as a portion of the cost for chaperones. Edmonds area students who are interested in participating are encouraged to visit the Commission’s webpage for an application packet and more information.
The application deadline has been extended to May 9, 2017 @ 4:30 pm. For an application packet click here or contact the Mayor's Office at 425.771.0247.
