Update on Edmonds

Main streetAfter three weekends of Walkable Main Street, the community and the City of Edmonds are calling it a success. Residents can plan on more Walkable Main Streets through August.

Since June 17, the City of Edmonds has closed Main Street between 3rd Avenue and 6th Avenue to vehicles from 10 am to 10 pm on Saturdays and 10 am to 9 pm on Sundays on three weekends. Fifth Avenue at the Fountain remains open to vehicle traffic as a turnaround option, although drivers are encouraged by signage to choose Dayton Street as a detour route.

Sunny skies certainly increase turnout, but residents visit on cloudy and even slightly drizzly days as well. Our local restaurants are doing well and some retailers have seen a bump in business. Many, many residents are thrilled with the opportunity to walk the area. Combining the Summer Market and Walkable Main Street on Saturdays has created a good day-long, open air feeling.
