Phase 2 Construction of Dayton Utility Replacement

The contractor began Phase 2 construction activities January 6th, 2020 instead of Mid March 2020. This earlier start date will decrease construction impacts during the summer of 2020.  Crews will begin where they left off with stormwater at 5th Ave. The construction will progress similarly to Phase 1 with crews working on one utility at a time from 5th to 9th then restarting on 5th to 9th for the next utility and finally re-paving the roadway.

Dayton utility1What to expect during construction
Construction in Phase 2 will occur along Dayton Street between 5th Ave and 9th Ave and will include single-lane closures on Dayton Street, intermittent intersection closures, and other traffic impacts. As a refresher, we will be replacing aging and undersized utilities along Dayton Street. Improvements will include:

Adding stormwater pipe capacity to reduce flooding in downtown during heavy rainstorms

Sewer pipe repairs and replacing potable water pipes that are nearing the end of their lifespan

Upgrading curb ramps to be ADA-accessible at the intersections of Dayton Street and 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th Avenues

Adding a sidewalk along the south side of Dayton Street from 7th to 8th Avenues

Road restoration and replacing the concrete sidewalks at 5th Ave

Community Transit reroutes during Phase 2 construction
Community Transit routes along Dayton Street will reroute in January 2020 when construction begins. Community Transit has established an alternate route for bus 116, a map showing the alternate route is available on the project website.
